Overview of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Pro
Xiaomi Redmi 9 Pro was announced in April of 2020 and launched in May of the same year. It appears to be a fairly decent midrange offered at a budget-friendly price, similar to the many Redmi Notes before it. It has a large screen, Qualcomm’s gaming-friendly hardware, an appealing multi-camera system, a large battery, and, of course, the newest Android with MIUI.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 Pro price in Kenya was very competitive considering the features that were added.

Design and Build
The Redmi Note 9 Pro is a traditional glass sandwich device, with a punch-hole for the selfie camera and a black square on the back for the quad camera. Xiaomi has eschewed gradients and other frills in favour of a single solid colour, be it Tropical Green, Glacier White, or Interstellar Gray.
The front is all screen, well, mostly. There is a noticeable black chin under the 6.67″ IPS LCD panel, but other than that – you will be enjoying one large and bright screen with a cinematic 20:9 aspect. The punch hole for the 16MP selfie camera is centred around the top and Xiaomi likes to brag with the Note 9 Pro symmetrical design. Well, we like it, too.
User Interface and Performance
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro comes pre-installed with MIUI 11 and runs on the new Android 10 operating system. The Redmi Note Pro is available only with 6GB RAM in both storage configurations – 64GB and 128GB.
The Snapdragon 720G chipset powers the Redmi Note 9 Pro, as well as the Redmi Note 9S and Realme 6 Pro. The SoC has an octa-core CPU with two 2.3GHz Kryo 465 Gold (Cortex-A76 derivative) cores and six 1.8GHz Kryo 465 Silver (Cortex-A55 derivative) cores in a 2+6 configuration. The Adreno 618 GPU in this chip is the same as in the Snapdragon 730.

Camera Quality
The main camera has a 64 MP sensor with a Quad-Bayer filter, which is most likely the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor. It has a wide sensor with 0.8m pixels and an aperture of f/1.9. After pixel binning, the image output is 16MP.
The 8MP sensor on the 119-degree ultrawide-angle camera has an f/2.2 aperture. When distortion correction is needed, it is applied automatically, but you can turn it off. There’s also a 5MP macro camera with 1.12m pixels and an f/2.4 aperture lens. Autofocus is available, which is a rare feature among snappers of this kind and is greatly appreciated.
Since the front camera uses a 16MP sensor with a Quad-Bayer filter, the 16MP selfies aren’t as bright as they should be. Even, the images are good, HDR works well when necessary, and the colours and contrast are good. In case anyone is curious, we’d be pleased with the native 4MP shots.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro can record videos in 4K at 30 frames per second, with 1080@60 frames per second and 1080@30 frames per second also available.
At first glance, it seems that all cameras will capture these resolutions, but this is not the case. Only 1080p clips at 30fps are recorded by the ultrawide-angle and macro cameras.
Let’s take a look at the primary camera. At both 30fps and 60fps, the video bitrate is 40-42Mbps in 4K and about 20Mbps in 1080p. The audio is encoded in stereo at a bitrate of 96Kbps.
Despite the high bitrate, the 4K videos have mediocre detail, but the overall quality is decent because everything else – colours, contrast, and, sometimes, dynamic range – makes up for the lacklustre detail.
Battery
A massive 5,020mAh Li-ion battery powers the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro. It supports fast charging at 30 watts, and the Note comes with a 30-watt charger. In 30 minutes, it can recharge about 60% of its dead battery.
